Assam: Minor Girl Allegedly Raped in Kokrajhar; Accused Apprehended

KOKRAJHAR: In a distressing incident, a minor girl, reportedly 16 years old, has allegedly been subjected to rape in the town of Kokrajhar, Assam. The accused is said to have drugged the victim before committing the heinous act.

The police acted swiftly, apprehending the accused, identified as Anowar Hussain, last night. A case has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at the Kokrajhar police station. Subsequently, the victim underwent a medical examination, with doctors confirming the occurrence of sexual assault.

Meanwhile, the accused, who cited health issues, has been admitted to a local hospital in Kokrajhar. However, there is a likelihood that he will be discharged soon and taken into police custody.

Condemning the incident, the All Adivasi Students Association (AASA) has demanded stringent action against the perpetrator, expressing concerns about the vulnerability of girls from tribal communities to such crimes. Local AASA leader, Salim Minz, emphasized the need for authorities to deliver appropriate punishment to the accused, with the hope that such a grave crime is deterred in the future.

Meanwhile, in an appalling incident, a nine-year old girl was allegedly raped by a photographer based at Kamakhya Temple in Nilachal Hills in the city. The incident reportedly occurred on Friday night near the VIP car parking outside the Kamakhya Temple. According to sources, a photographer identified by police as Nayan Haloi, was accused of raping the minor girl in front of her mother. The incident is said to have happened on Friday night and the FIR was filed by the mother at Kamakhya police outpost on Saturday morning.

According to sources, the photographer identified as Nayan Haloi was accused of raping the minor girl in front of her mother. It was reported that the victim girl and her mother had been seen begging outside the Kamakhya Temple for the past few months. They used to stay overnight under the foot over bridge.

The victim's mother approached the Kamakhya police outpost for help and has also lodged an FIR against the accused. Police acted promptly and arrested the accused later on Saturday.
