Assam: Minor girl allegedly sexually abused; accused absconding

TINSUKIA:  A minor girl and her mother were subjected to alleged sexual abuse by a person who happened to be the woman’s second husband and a government employee at the DC’s office, Tinsukia. Though the mother-daughter duo has been facing the harassment for more than four years, the minor child’s guardian finally got the case registered under the POCSO Act against three persons vide no 518/2023 at Tinsukia Sadar PS.

At a press meet at Tinsukia Press Club on Wednesday, the maternal uncle and also the guardian of the child, while elaborating the harassment he endured due to high-handedness of police in lodging the complaint, said his widowed sister got married to a person named Wajid Hussain, working as Nazir in Nazarat branch, and accordingly she moved to Hussain’s house along with her minor daughter, who underwent sexual abuse allegedly at the hands of Hussain during the past four years. Finally, she was rescued by her maternal uncle.

Hussain allegedly influenced the police and other connections to hush up all records, including CWD proceedings, as alleged by the guardian. The child recently submitted her statement under 164 CrPC, the guardian said. After registration of the case under POCSO Act, all the persons, including the main accused, absconded. The family members want the investigating authorities to unearth all relevant records, both previous and present, in order to bestow justice to the child.
