SILCHAR: Assam Minority Students' Union, Karimganj unit, on Thursday hit the street of the border town, demanding high level probe into what it calls large scale irregularities in the distribution of minority scholarships across the state of Assam. Protest demonstrations have been organised and staged in Karimganj and Hailakandi districts also from time to time. AMSU leaders allege their demand for investigation has been totally ignored. Yet, they have evidences to substantiate their allegations. Asad Uddin Laskar, president of Karimganj unit, said, "Today's protest is to raise their voice for probe by the state government led by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal who has pledged the people of 'Zero tolerance against corruption."

Asad Uddin pointed out it is quite strange that 'Our demand is being sidetracked, giving indication of how corruption, big and small, is of no consequence for the government. Still strange, political leaders are maintaining safe distance instead of backing their serious allegation. Further to raise their pitch, effigies of the Chief Minister and Ranjit Dass, Minister of Minority Affairs, were set ablaze at the main road of the town after articulating their grievances.
