LAKHIMPUR: In a shoking incident, miscreants attacked police personnel in Lakhimpur while they were on the way to apprehend a notorious drug peddler.

This incident happened at No. 2 Ahmedpur village under Naoboicha LAC of the district on Wednesday. As per source, a team of police police personnel reached the village to apprehend a drug peddler, identified as Saddam Hussain. The team of the police personnel could manage to apprehend him. While he was being taken away, a group of miscreants launched an attack on the team of police personnel and forcefully got the drug peddler released from their clutches.

Several police personnel sustained injuries in the sudden attack. The miscreants allegedly injured a police personnel by biting him brutally. On the other hand, Wahida Begum, the pregnant wife of Saddam Hussain also sustained injury in the attack. On Thursday morning, a large team of police launched an operation in the area under the supervision of SP Anand Mishra in search of the attackers and Saddam Hussain. During the operation, Lakhimpur police detained as many as 50 people in connection with the incident. The detainees have been kept separately at Bangalmara, Bihpuria, Dhalpur, Naobaicha and Laluk police stations.
