Assam: Miscreants Loot Rs 2 Lakh From Railway Employee

MARIYANI: In yet another incident of daylight robbery, unidentified miscreants looted Rs 2 Lakh from a railway employee. The incident took place right outside the Mariyani branch of the State Bank of India.

According to the local people, the victim of the incident was Kasiram Rajbongshi, an employee of the railways department and a resident of the Railway Colony in Mariyani. On the morning of Thursday, the victim had withdrawn an amount of Rs 2 lakhs from the State Bank of India Mariyani branch. Just as he was trying to unlock his bicycle, the miscreants grabbed his bag with money in it and fled from the scene.

Although the police have registered a case regarding the incident and started with their investigations, it can be mentioned that this is the second such incident in the month and the culprits of the previous incident have not been apprehended yet. It can also be noted that out of the 18 close-circuit cameras installed in Mariyani, a large number remain dysfunctional as of now. The public has raised concerns regarding the lack of enough cameras to keep and eye as well as to prevent criminal activities.

In yet another incident of robbery in Biswanath town, the miscreants broke in through the ceiling of a business house and sacked various valuable items from the same.

The gangs of robbers in Biswanath seem to have expanded their list of targets recently. Previously they used to stick to the residences of local people at a time when the people went for their daily chores, leaving the residence empty. But now they have started targeting the business houses as well. The most recent target of these robbers was a hardware store. The name of the store is Mata Hardware and it is located on the Biswanath-Pabhoi road. During their operation, the robbers reportedly took two laptops, the two DVRs used for the close circuit cameras and a Jio Wi-Fi router. It can be noted that the shop had been robbed four times in the past.

Meanwhile, a team from the Biswanath Police visited the shop and took stock of the situation. They have started an investigation into the matter, and trying to get hold of all the miscreants involved.
