SILCHAR: The dawn to dusk bandh called by Barak Democratic Front (BDF) passed off peacefully. It was spontaneous and drew overwhelming support from all sections of people in three districts of Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi. Political parties, BJP, Congress and AIUDF have lent their tacit support. In fact, the bandh was an expression of people's extreme anguish and outrage with voices of condemnation all around against the Mizo aggression and brutality.

Pradip Dutta Roy, Chief Convener, said Barak Democratic Front (BDF) which has been vociferous against Mizo aggression on Assam land in the three districts of the valley has been persistently demanding tough action to stop once for all the acts of depredations from Mizoram. Besides challenging the territorial integrity of the state, the well equipped anti social elements with all sorts of handy lethal missiles backed by armed Mizo police have been indulging in violent activities, targeting civilians, schools and reserve forests.

Pradip Dutta Roy, added to say the climax of violence came when 6 Assam police personnel fell to the bullets of Mizo police and 42 jawans were injured, some seriously. SP of Cachar Nimbalkar Chandrakanta received bullet injury in his leg and is now recuperating in a Mumbai Hospital. BDF wishes the SP and other jawans early recovery. Reports from the three districts say all sorts of vehicular traffic were off highways and roads. Inter valley Rail movement came to a standstill. State and Central establishments were shut. Commercial and business houses were under lock and key. "The total bandh was an expression of solidarity of people to protect the territorial integrity of Assam and to stand by our brave jawans" pointed out Pradip Dutta Roy.
