Assam-Mizoram Border Tension

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Sarma has assured that not an inch of Mizoram land will be encroached upon by Assam. Further CM Sarma said that the Assam government is willing to discuss and settle the inter-state border problem at the earliest and has also written to Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga for a satellite survey of the boundary position and maintenance of complete peace and normalcy in the disputed area.

This comes after a suspected blast was carried out on the Mizoram side in the wee hours of Sunday. The CRPF personnel deployed at the Khulichera area were immediately asked to inquire into the suspected blast.

According to police, two back-to-back explosions took place on Sunday along the Assam-Mizoram interstate border.

On the other hand, Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta has 'requested' the Mizoram authorities to take steps so that people in Assam are not attacked and schools in the State are not bombed.

"I request our Mizo brethren not to attack people or officials or bomb schools and such in Assam," DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said.

Earlier on July 9, chief secretaries and DGPs of Assam and Mizoram along with other officials of both the states sat for discussions on the inter-state border dispute in New Delhi.

"A border issue dialogue with Mizoram CS L Chuanga & DGP SBK Singh was recently held in Delhi. Assam was represented by Chief Secretary Shri Jishnu Baruah & us. The goal was to bring about amicable solution to the festering border issues," said Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta.
