Moran: Amid the new Covid strain and bird flu in some parts of India, villagers of Moran and Digboi in Assam have been celebrating the post-harvest festival, Bhogali Bihu with full enthusiasm and joy.
The celebration has started on Thursday early dawn by lighting up the 'Meji'. In some places, locals have organized Maghi Mela on the occasion of Magh bihu.
In Charaideo district, Maghi Mela has been organized at Tarani field where locals have arranged for interesting, traditional games, and sports.
Games such as 'Tekeli Bhonga'( Breaking a pot), 'Pisol khuta bogoa', (Greased bamboo pole climbing competition) 'Rosi tona' (Tug of war), and 'Choki Khel' (Musical chair), etc are being held.
Manas Pratim Bora, a sculptor, has set up the symbols of the traditional games of the Ahom-era- 'Malla juj' (Man fight), 'Moh juj', (Buffalo fight), 'Kukura juj' (Cockfight), 'Rosi tona' (Tug of war), etc in a beautiful way in collaboration with Cultural Mancha.
People from various places have been visiting the exceptionally organized fair.
In the meantime, the Gorkha community people of a nearby village Lakkhipathar in Digboi have been celebrating the post-harvest festival. They began the celebration from Thursday morning setting fire on Meji with their Manglik rituals in the presence of eminent personalities of the village.
They enjoy the traditional Bihu delicacies like pitha and laru etc made by the women of the village.
Speaking at the occasion a local said that Gorkha community people have been playing a major role in maintaining Assamese culture, which is commendable. And such efforts of the various communities will strengthen the unity of the greater Assamese nation. He further stated that there have been allegations such as some power has been trying to create communal division among the Assamese nation, so he urged everyone to come together and build the Assamese nation stronger.
