Assam Motor Workers' Association Calls For 48-Hours Chakka Bandh

Guwahati: In a bid to protest against the state government, the Assam Motor Workers' Association (AMWA) has called for a 48-hour Chakka Bandh across on March 28 and 29.

According to an official statement from AMWA, the two-day bandh has been called following the state government's harassment towards commercial motor vehicle owners and workers.

''The state government failed to provide any kind of aid to commercial vehicle drivers and conductors, who have gone through tough times over the last two years following the COVID-induced lockdown,'' the statement read.

''As the vehicles were forced to take from the road due to lockdown, the same government is now harassing us with fines and taxes on vehicles rather than giving us some relief,'' the statement added.

The official statement further claimed that the Motor Shramik Kalyan Asoni which was introduced in the state assembly has not been implemented yet.

All modes of public transport services, including buses and taxis, would remain off the roads on March 28 and 29.

Meanwhile, the All Assam Cab Operators Association has also extended support to the strike.
