Assam: Multiple Gambling Dens Busted By Police In Basistha & Garchuk

Guwahati: The Assam Police has carried out several operations in a bid to bust gambling dens in Guwahati right before the Diwali celebrations. 

Many prominent locations of Guwahati were raided by the Assam Police in Garchuk and Basistha. The police were unable to catch the prime gamblers but recovered a in sizeable amount of currency and stationary that have been used in gambling. 

As per local media, the police raided several lanes in Garchuk and Basistha and were able to bust multiple gambling dens in the area. 

Many uptown hotels of the city were also raided by the Assam Police and many gambling events were foiled. The police also arrested and detained many persons in connection to the gambling events.

It is to be noted that many popular gambling events such as Teen Patti and Rummy are frequently organised in the city and lakhs of rupees are invested in such events.

Recently, the Sonitpur police had arrested five teer and gambling agents in the district of Sonitpur. The police conducted a raid at a pan shop of Sunil Karmakar (40), No 2 Dolabari area under Tezpur PS, and seized 14 teer ticket books and cash.
