Assam: Murder accused inmate Prakash Barman flees from Kokrajhar jail

KOKRAJHAR: Murder accused jail inmate Prakash Barman fled from Kokrajhar jail on Monday night, just hours before Independence Day. The escape of the jail inmate from the high-security jail has raised questions on the security apparatus in the jail.

Sources said Prakash Barman, hailing from Nayachara under Salakati Police Station, allegedly killed his uncle on March 12 and buried his body near the house. He was hiding in Beltola, Guwahati from where Kokrajhar police arrested him on March 19 and sent him to Kokrajhar jail on March 24.

Meanwhile, local people have expressed concern over the security of jail and demanded that the accused must be caught soon and sent back to jail.
