SONITPUR: Early on Thursday morning, a woman was discovered dead at Gohpur in the Sonitpur district of Assam.

Urmila Saikia has been named as the deceased.

Her husband Kushal Saikia has been detained by the police in connection with the investigation.

The Gohpur police station has received a report, and the deceased's family members believe that Urmila's husband killed her.

The inquiry is ongoing after Kushal Saikia was remanded in police custody for three days, according to sources. He was brought before the court by the Hawajan police.

In an attempt to get a competent inquiry into the occurrence and stern punishment for the offenders, the deceased woman's family members organised a demonstration.

The death of Urmila was also said to have been caused by bludgeoning her, according to sources.

At the residence in Assam's Bajali, earlier on April 6, a woman used a sharp object to kill her husband.

Sources claim that the incident took place the night before when the wife stabbed and killed Niranjan Bora in a fit of rage related to a family disagreement.

The accused, Junita Bora, who has been identified, went to Bhawanipur Police Station the next morning and turned herself in together with her 6-year-old daughter after perpetrating the crime.

When they got there, they started an investigation by filing an FIR and going over to the crime scene.

Since their marriage ten years prior, Niranjan Bora and his wife have resided in their in-laws' home in Bajali. Niranjan Bora is a resident of Golaghat.

Previously, a married woman was discovered dead on April 18 in suspicious circumstances and the situation became heated in Sipajhar, Assam's Darrang district. The event allegedly took place in the Sipajhar area of Darrang called Ghopa. Bhonita Deka has been recognised as the deceased married woman.

Earlier, in Dakhin Kamrup, Assam, on March 20, a mother of two committed suicide as a result of dowry-related problems.

The event happened in the Goroimari neighbourhood of Dakshin Kamrup, where the woman ingested poison while being repeatedly physically abused by her husband since her family was unable to meet her in-laws' dowry demands. Jayanpha Khatun, 22, was identified as the dead woman.
