NALBARI: A special meeting was held on Wednesday with the representatives of various puja committees of the Nalbari district under the chairmanship of District Commissioner Varnali Deka in the conference hall of the office of District Commissioner.

In the meeting with the Puja Committees, discussion was held regarding the necessary rules and regulations to be followed and preparations relating to the forth coming celebration of the festival of Durga Puja. DC Deka conducted an introduction with all the Puja committees at the beginning of the meeting.

The Circle Officer of Barkhetri revenue circle read out the minutes of the previous meeting. In order to hold this puja, the puja committees will have to apply for permission on time and the name of the ghat has to be clearly mentioned in the application. On the other hand, if any puja society wants to organize any other cultural event, fair etc. on the occasion of Durga Utsav, then it will also have to apply for permission separately. Departmental permission will also be required for temporary electricity connection in puja pandals. Illegal electricity connection without permission will be punishable under the Act. For these permission applications, a specific letter will be sent from the department concerned of the DC’s office.

Adequate number of volunteers should be appointed to ensure a smooth celebration. The use of single-use plastic will be prohibited. During the puja celebration period, all the latest policy guidelines of the Pollution Control Board Assam will be fulfilled by the puja committee. As per the orders of the Supreme Court, all puja committees may use the mic between 6 am to 9 pm. The idol immersion should be completed before 4 pm.

In the meeting, Nalbari Additional Superintendent of Police Pradeep Kowar assured full cooperation from the police administration. The DC directed SDO Sadar to take up massive drives for seizing liquor in the areas near the puja pandals, in collaboration with the Superintendent of the Excise Department. The DC also announced that the best three puja committees to celebrate environment-friendly Puja will be awarded on Republic Day by the district administration.

At the end of the meeting, DC Deka sought cooperation and support from the puja committees to ensure the safe, peaceful and smooth celebration and also urged them to follow the guidelines and directions of the government.
