DHUBRI: The National Press Day was observed under the auspices of the Dhubri District Public Relations Office at its office premises on Thursday. One-minute silence was observed in memory of departed journalists. The meeting was chaired by Additional District Commissioner of Dhubri Nitya Binod Wari and attended by Dr. (Prof) Bholanath College, Dhubri. Upendrajit Sarma.

In his speech as the chief guest, Sarma praised the dedication of some senior journalists of Dhubri and said that journalists have a very important role in shaping the country and society.

While addressing the meeting Wari said that journalists have been performing their duties through many difficulties. He also mentioned the problems faced by journalists during the British era. The meeting also felicitated the presidents, secretaries of Dhubri Press Club, Dhubri Journalists’ Association, Dhubri Barta Jibi Sangha and senior journalists with phulam gamocha. The meeting was attended by senior journalists Bijoy Kumar Sharma, Pronabashish Roy and Rajib Sarma. The meeting was anchored by District Information and Public Relations Officer, Prasanta Goyari.

MORIGAON: National Press Day was celebrated at Pabitora Hut in Morigaon on Thursday. Morigaon District Journalists Association’s president Birinchi Kumar Sharma presided over the meeting which was inaugurated by District Commissioner Devashish Sharma. In his inaugural address, the District Commissioner said that free and accountable media is an important part of the democratic system. Referring to the theme of this year’s National Press Day, “Media in the Age of Artificial Intelligence”, he said that Artificial Intelligence at some point will become an integral part of every person’s life. But the real challenge now is to make the right decisions about what we should and should not take from artificial intelligence, he said. Speaking as the keynote speaker, Manas Pratim Sharma, Head of RND, Aakashbani Guwahati said that artificial intelligence is slowly starting to affect people’s daily lives. Issues such as artificial intelligence or machine learning are now leading to radical changes in the media landscape. He also spoke about the proper use of social media and the concept of “deep fake” which is widespread nowadays. Speaking as the chief guest, senior journalist Pratap Hazarika said that artificial intelligence has made many things easier for people in many fields but it has created huge challenges in terms of employment in many sectors.
