Assam: National Press Day observed across State

TINSUKIA: The Tinsukia district administration in association with District Information & Public Relation Office organized National Press Day at the conference hall of Tinsukia Zilla Parishad on Thursday. The meeting was chaired by Sushanta Kumar Dutta, District Development Commissioner and the newly-appointed DIPR Snigdha Rani Das welcomed the journalists. More than 30 journalists from across Tinsukia district attended the programme.

In his introductory speech, Dutta elaborated the genesis of the day while highlighting the relevance of the theme in context of changing and emerging scenario of journalism from print media to digital media and finally incorporation of Artificial Intelligence into media. Dr Rishi Das, senior journalist was the invited speaker who spoke on the theme ‘Journalism in the era of Artificial Intelligence (AI)’. Dr Das in lucid language elaborated in details about the pros and cons of AI in journalism through PPP. He also highlighted the advantages and disadvantages of engaging AI in media citing references from scholastic articles written by renowned journalists in recent times. He also called upon young journalists to adopt the new technology for future sustenance in their profession. Senior journalists Dhiren Deka, Amulya Khatoniar, Ranjit Dutta participated in the interactive session that followed the presentation.

BILASIPARA: Under the aegis of Bilasipara Sub-Divisional administration and in association with Bilasipara Press Club, the National Press Day was observed at Bilasipara in the auditorium of Dr BR Ambedkar Bhawan. In this connection a seminar was held with Ziyaur Rahman ,i/c SDIPRO, Bilasipara in the chair. The seminar was addressed by Sheikh Hedayetullah, retired principal of Chapar Ratnapith College, Dayal Paul , senior journalist, Moslem Uddin Ahmed, Government pension holder journalist, Ziyanur Rahman, Assistant Commissioner cum i/c, SDIPRO, Bilasipara and Bappa Sarker, president, Bilasipara Press Club. In this connection senior journalist Dayal Paul and Moslem Uddin Ahmed were felicitated with certificate of appreciation and phoolam gamocha. Sanjay Sarma, secretary of Bilasipara Press Club offered vote of thanks.

DOOMDOOMA: Under the auspices of Sub-Division Information and Public Relation Officer (SDIPRO)’s office, Sadiya Sub-Division Administration and Sadiya Press Club “National Press Day”(NPD) was celebrated at the conference room of Sadiya Sub-Divisional Officer’s Office on Thursday with Assistant Commissioner-cum-SDRRO Porcia Khanikar in the chair. On that occasion a seminar was held on the main theme of the NPD, 2023, “Media in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.” Attending the seminar as chief guest, Dr Sudarshan Gogoi, Assistant Professor, Sadiya College, gave an detailed account of the celebration of the day. The meeting was also attended by journalist Bagen Gogoi. The journalists were felicitated at the function. The event was attended by members of Sadiya Press Club, Aizhar Rahman, Abhi Kumar Gogoi and Manoj Kumar Berihar of the SDIPRO.

GORESWAR: The National Press Day was observed at Tamulpur Press club in Tamulpur district with a day-long programme on Thursday under the aegis of District Information and Public Relations Department and in collaboration with Tamulpur Press Club.

On this occasion, the flag was hoisted by Ananda Ramciary, president of Tamulpur Press Club and the Smriti tarpan programme was performed by Gunajit Das, secretary of Tamulpur press club.

In this connection, a seminar was also organized at Tamulpur Press Club Bhawan which was anchored by Abhijit Tamulpur, office secretary of Tamulpur Press Club.

Ramen Das, secretary of Bodoland Journalists’ Association, attended the seminar and delivered his speech on the significance of the National Press Day. He said that the day is observed on November 16 every year in India to celebrate the importance of a free and responsible press in a democratic society. The day is celebrated to commemorate the establishment of the Press Council of India which acts as a regulatory body for media in the country.

Bidhyut Bikash Bhagawati, District Commissioner of Tamulpur attended the seminar as chief guest and extended greetings to the press and media fraternity in the seminar.

Barpeta: National Press Day was observed at Barpeta press Club premises by Barpeta Press club, Journalist Union of Assam, Barpeta District in collaboration with Barpeta district administration. On this special day, veteran journalist of Barpeta Mrinalmalla Patowary was felicitated for his contribution to the world of journalism. In this regard a lecture on the topic, “Media in the Era of Artificial Intelligence” was held which was delivered by Ranjit Kr Kalita, lecturer, DIET, Barpeta. In his speech the speaker spoke about the uplift of media and its modernization.
