Assam: Newly-elected Students’ Council of Tezpur University assumes office

TEZPUR: As per the spirit of Tezpur University (TU) Act & Statue on constitution and functioning of the Students’ Council of Tezpur University (TUSC), TU has recently completed Students’ Council Election for the year 2023. The newly-elected members of TUSC assumed charge of the office on October 6 at a solemn ceremony organized at the Council Hall of the University. The election was held on September 23, 2023 and the results were declared on September 25, 2023.

In presence of Prof. Shambhu Nath Singh, Vice Chancellor of the University, the office of Dean, Students’ Welfare handed over the portfolios to 10 newly-elected TUSC candidates and executive members on the occasion. Niyar Pathak, a student of Department of Sociology was elected as the president and Partha Pratim Kalita, a student of Department of Commerce was elected as the General Secretary of TUSC.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Singh said that the university ensured complete fairness and transparency in the election process and thereby giving both candidates and voters equal opportunity to present their ideas and visions for the university during campaign periods. “I trust the newly-elected Students’ Council members will play a crucial role in representing the interests of the student community and work collaboratively with the university administration to its growth,” Prof. Singh remarked.

Earlier on the day, the Vice Chancellor also attended a get-together organised by Tezpur University Teachers’ Association to express his gratitude to three exceptional educators of the University, viz. Prof. Bolin K. Konwar, former Vice Chancellor, Nagaland University and a senior faculty member of Dept. of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Prof. Madhumita Barbora, a senior faculty member of Dept. of Linguistics and Language Technology who superannuated after attaining the prescribed age. Prof. Niranjan Karak, Department of Chemical Sciences and a recipient of Visitor’s Award opted for voluntary retirement service.

Prof. Singh acknowledged the contribution of these fine educators in shaping the academic landscape of the institution. Appreciating their unwavering commitment to the university’s mission of academic excellence, the Vice Chancellor remarked, “The professor trio have not only imparted knowledge but have also served as mentors and role models to countless students and they will be missed on the campus.”
