Assam: Noted Educationalist Deven Dutta Passes Away

GUWAHATI: Prominent educationalist of the state Deven Dutta passed away in Guwahati just after midnight on Friday. He was 81 years old at the time of death.

He was suffering from several medical conditions including cardiac, renal and pulmonary problems and was admitted to the Gauhati Medical College Hospital on August 11 and was under care since then. It was informed that Deven Dutta passed away at around 12:10 AM on Friday.

He was born in the Nazira locality of Sivasagar on April 5, 1944. He completed his post-graduation in English in 1965 and later on became a professor of the subject at the prestigious Cotton College of Guwahati. Later on, he was given the position of the Vice Principal of the same institution in 2001.

The last rites of the noted educationalist Deven Dutta will be performed at the Nabagraha crematorium.

Paying his condolences to the late educationalist, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma mentioned over X (formerly called Twitter),”I am saddened to hear of the passing away of eminent educationist and professor Shri Deven Dutta. The death of former Cotton College Professor Dutta, who made an important contribution to the development of language and literature, is an irreparable loss to the social and educational world of Assam. I wish him eternal peace and extend my deepest condolences to his bereaved family. Aum Shanti.”
