Jorhat: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said that officials who have sanctioned houses to 'ineligible' beneficiaries in the state under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana- Gramin (PMAY-G) would be booked as per law.

In this regard, he also announced to open a toll-free number for complaints regarding any anomalies while granting houses under the scheme.

''If any officer has sanctioned house under the scheme to someone who stands ineligible for the scheme, then, in that case, he/she will be dealt under the relevant law and sent to jail,'' he said while addressing a gathering in Jorhat.

''People can register their complaint against such misappropriation by calling the toll-free number which the state government will open shortly, '' he said.

He further informed that a toll-free number would be operational soon.

As per the Assam CM, the centre has already sanctioned 19 lakh houses under the PMAY-G scheme in 2014.

''Presently, seven lakh houses are being constructed and today we are granting another 5 lakhs. The remaining seven lakhs will be given soon,'' he added.

The Assam government on Tuesday announced the distribution of over 5 lakh houses to beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) scheme.

The PMAY-G has been dreamed up in line with Government's promise to grant 'Housing for All' by 2022 in the rural regions.

This scheme has been addressing the rural poor under which it will distribute pucca houses with all the basic necessities including a hygienic kitchen to those residing in kutcha houses.

This social welfare scheme aims at providing financial assistance to those hailing from economically marginalized sections to have access to housing infrastructure suppliers.
