KOKRAJHAR: Prior to the celebration of Gandhi Jayanti, the Saima Aithing Group (SAG), a group of health-conscious citizens of Kokrajhar, in association with the People’s Aid NGO and the Kokrajhar Press Club (KPC), carried out a cleanliness drive and plantation programme in a stretch of 3 km at the new flyover road on Sunday. The members of SAG, KPC, and activists of People’s Aid picked up the one-time-use plastic thrown on both sides of the road and cleared creepers and jungles. They also planted saplings on the roadside for beautification and hygiene.
Talking to the media, Joleswar Basumatary, a retired teacher on behalf of SAG, said they jointly carried out the cleanliness drive and plantation programme to commemorate the celebration of Gandhi Jayanti. He said the SAG used to carry out regular cleanliness drives at this part of the road, which is the main walking zone for health-conscious citizens of Kokrajhar. He said that they used to clean up the road and pick up plastic thrown on the roadsides at least three times a year. President of People’s Aid NGO Nava Kr. Basumatary also said cleanliness should be the practice of every individual in their day-to-day life for a clean and hygienic environment.
TEZPUR: LGB Regional Institute of Mental Health, Tezpur, organized a massive cleanliness drive on Sunday at the patients and attendants waiting areas in front of the hospital as part of Swachhata Pakhwada-Swachhata Hi Seva as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. The institute also organized a plantation programme in front of the hospital building and the New Library complex. The institute will organize month-long programmes during the Swachhata Pakhwada from October 1 to October 31. The programmes will include Swachhta awareness programmes on hand washing, cough etiquette, solid waste management, BMW waste segregation, plastic waste segregation, menstrual hygiene, and disposal of sanitary pads.
