Assam: One Arrested for Stealing Railway Property

Multiple costly hydraulic jacks made of iron belonging to the railways were stolen this time from Lumding.

LUMDING: Theft and sale of iron products belonging to the Indian Railways have been going on for a very long time and a youth was arrested by the authorities from Lumding in Assam with regards to similar incidents.

According to the authorities, materials made of iron, copper and brass worth more than twelve lakhs were stolen in a previous incident which led to the arrest of Railway employees as well as members of the railway protection force. But no serious action was taken by the railways or the railway protection force in order to prevent any such incident in the future.

Multiple costly hydraulic jacks made of iron belonging to the railways were stolen this time from Lumding. Following the complaints, the officer in charge of the Lumding Police Station Chandan Jyoti Bora arrested one youth from the Guru Basti locality and several jacks were recovered from his possession. Identified as one Rajesh Sainik, he is being called the mastermind behind the ongoing thefts by the police and three of his aids are now said to be absconding after his arrest.

In the past, such incidents of theft were limited to scrap iron and other scraped products from the railways, but now even the items at the Lumding office of the railway department are being targeted by the miscreants. According to reports, items worth more than Rs 1 lakh were stolen from the Demu Shed which comes under the Lumding division of the Indian Railways.

Previously, the annual Shitala Puja celebration is underway in the town of Lumding with the participation of thousands of devotees from across the region. Following the traditions of the previous years, the festivities started this year as well. The event continued for eight days till April 11. The festival was organised in the Shitalabari complex of the Horulongfar region in Lumding with complete ethnicity and traditional favour. Following the traditions, the statue of the goddess of the was adorned with new clothes and ornaments one day ahead of the start of the celebrations and the rituals were carried out.
