DIBRUGARH: A major road accident took place over the Bogibeel Bridge in Dibrugarh on Wednesday leaving one dead and several injured. According to reports, the accident took place at around 9am when three dumpers and one Tata Magic carrying passengers collided over the Bogibeel bridge.
According to witnesses, a dumper tuck coming from Dhemaji side bearing registration no (AS06CC0146) while trying to overtake another dumper truck bearing registration no (AS 07AC0577) collided with another dumper truck (AS 06 BC 6669) coming from the opposite direction from Dibrugarh side.
At the same time a Tata Magic (AS 06 AC 8984) passenger vehicle carrying around 12 passengers which was behind the dumper truck coming from Dibrugarh side crashed into the dumper truck from behind.
One passenger identified as Tarun Kuli (52), died on the spot while many other passengers were injured. The drivers of two dumper trucks also sustained injuries. The injured were taken to the Assam Medical College and Hospital (ACMH) in Dibrugarh for treatment.
Luckily an Army convoy was passing through the Bogibeel Bridge at that moment and they immediately swung into action and jumped into the rescue operation.
The Army team extracted the injured from the badly-mangled vehicles with the help of cranes. Army doctors also provided medical help to the injured persons at the accident site.
“Recently many road mishap took place in Bogibeel area due over speeding and rash driving. The people who are driving vehicle should understand the safety of the passengers. We have witnessed many accident in an around Bogibeel,” said a resident of Bogibeel.
