BISWANATH: As a part of the crackdown on narcotics in the state, the police were able to arrest one person and even seized some amount of narcotics from his possession.

As per the reports received, one person was involved in the peddling of narcotic substances in the region for quite some time. Based on inputs, Biswanath Police was able to arrest one Asmat Ali belonging to the Falfali Village of the Biswanath District.

He was found inside a tea garden in the Petulibari region of the district. On searching his possessions, the police team was able to confiscate a total of four small containers filled with a narcotics substance. The police continued to interrogate the person with the aim of revealing his contacts and collaborators.

It can be noted that a large number of youth from the district are now addicted to dangerous narcotic substances including heroin. Locals have called it a very dangerous trend as consumption of such substances not only creates problems for the person but for the whole family and the community. A large number of addicts often end up with permanent disabilities, if not dead.

In a recent development, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the relentless efforts of the Assam Police in curbing the drug menace in the state. The Chief Minister took to social media platform X to announce yet another significant achievement in the fight against drugs – a major drug bust conducted by the Special Task Force (STF) of the Assam Police. During the operation, the STF successfully seized a substantial consignment of suspected heroin, totalling 982 grams. The seizure took place in Hojai town, located in the Hojai district of Assam. The Chief Minister, through his post, expressed gratitude to the dedicated team of police officials who carried out the operation.

The STF's operation was prompted by a credible tip-off about a potential smuggling activity in the area. Acting swiftly on the received information, the police conducted the raid, resulting in the confiscation of a significant quantity of heroin. The Chief Minister highlighted the effectiveness of intelligence inputs in proactively addressing such criminal activities. The post by CM Sarma also mentioned that one individual was apprehended by the police during the operation. This underscores the success of the well-coordinated efforts of law enforcement agencies in tackling drug-related crimes. The arrest adds another layer to the ongoing efforts to dismantle drug networks operating within the state.
