Assam: Pathetic Condition of Primary School in Biswanath

BISWANATH: The conditions of a primary school in Biswanath of Assam have raised questions about the steps taken by the concerned department towards the development of the education sector in the state of Assam.

Established in 1979, the Fakaruddin Primary School still lacks a proper road for entering the premises. The students and teachers have to pass through the courtyards and fields of other people to reach the school. The school even lacks a proper and ample number of classrooms to take classes for the local students who come from economically challenged backgrounds.

The safety of the students is also at constant risk as the school lacks boundary walls and there are ponds near the school. A total of 45 students are enrolled in the school and classes are taken together in the lack of proper amenities.

It remains to see if the education department of the state, which has been boosting to be being one of the very best, can in fact look into the condition of these schools and take necessary steps towards their development and upgradation.

Meanwhile, the mid-day meal cooks of the primary and upper primary schools have not received full remuneration for the last 7 months. There are about 1.18 lakh cooks, and according to the rules, they should be getting Rs 1500 as remuneration per month, but instead, they are getting Rs 1000 for the last seven months. All Assam Primary and Upper Primary School PM-POSHAN Workers' Association demanded that the government should release their unpaid dues, and if this is not fulfilled, they will be staging a protest on September 11 in Guwahati. The association will be protesting in demand that they should get a full 12-month salary instead of a 10-month. The workers should be given appointment letters and have their jobs regularized.
