BISWANATH CHARIALI: Acting on a tip-off that Fake Indian Currency Note (FICN) would be transported by some fraudsters from Bangalmora of Lakhimpur district to Guwahati enroute Biswanath district on the night of November 2, a special search was conducted on NH-15 in front of Borgang Outpost around 8.30 pm by police.
Accordingly, at around 12.30 am, a red colour Mahindra Supro vehicle bearing registration no. AS-07C-4259 was intercepted with DrHaobijamMangaljao Singh (46), son of HaobijanThoiba Singh of ThangaChingkhaLeikai village, KhulemDilleay Singh (34), son of KhulemAmuchou Singh of YairipokTopchingtha village and Swamendrajit Singh (32), son of SanjenbamIbotombi Singh of ThoubalAwangLeikai village of Manipur.
During interrogation, they confessed that they had gone from Guwahati to Bangalmora on November 2 to buy FICN from two persons, namely Rana and Lucky of Bangalmora. From their possession, Rs 72,000 in cash, six mobile handsets and eight ATM cards were seized by police. Based on this, Behali PS Case no. 99/ 2020 u/s 120 (B)/ 420/ 489 (A)/ 511/ 34 IPC was registered. With assistance from Lakhimpur District Police, one MdSuruj Ali was apprehended on Tuesday and his Wagon R vehicle was also seized. All the four accused persons were arrested and produced before the court on Wednesday and seven days police remand was granted for the accused persons. Investigation is on to crack the entire inter-State gang of FICN.
