Assam: Police Arrest 6 Gamblers from Railway Quarters in Lumding

The raiding police team was able to seize a total of 8 mobile phones, Rs 35 thousand in cash as well as playing cards used in gambling.

LUMDING: In an operation against illegal gambling in the town, Lumding police were able to arrest a total of 6 gamblers from the railway department quarters located in Lumding.

Lumding has turned into a haven for gamblers. And the quarters of the railway department are turning into a perfect location for such anti-social elements. And acting on specific information, the local police were able to carry out an operation against the same. They raided the locality when several gambles were present.

The operation was carried out in the railway department quarters located in the Upper Babupatty locality and the police team was able to catch them red-handed while being involved in illegal gambling.

The identities of the arrested people were released to be Jayanta Sinha, Biki Pal, Supreet Singh Bedi, Kalyan Deb, Liton Das and Shibu Bhattacharya. One of them was identified to be an employee of the railways department.

Meanwhile, Lumding Police has registered a case under the Gambling Act and other sections of the IPC and they have been presented before the judiciary and proper actions have been initiated.

The narcotics menace has also been a problem in the town. A gang of robbers involved in various unlawful activities was apprehended by the security forces. The security personnel including people from the CIB unit of the Railway Protection Force apprehended a total of 6 miscreants. A gang of miscreants involved in the robbing of valuables from passengers was caught by the railway police. They were involved in the snatching and stealing of mobile phones, cash and other valuables from the people of the passengers of the trains.

Suspected narcotics peddlers were also part of this group of miscreants and they were suspected of selling brown sugar to narcotics consumers. The team was also able to recover a total of six mobile phones, Rs 10725 in cash and suspected brown sugar worth around Rs 9 lakhs from the miscreants. The identities of the 6 miscreants were also revealed by the security forces. They are Rafik Uddin, Azijul Haque, Abdul Wahid, Anuwar Hussain and Rajib Hussain from Hojai and Mahidul Islam from Nagaon. Mahidul Islam is said to be the mastermind of the whole gang of miscreants by the security forces.
