Sonitpur: Assam police on Sunday apprehended a person after he opened fire on a youth in the Gudamghat area of the state's Sonitpur district.
As per reports, the accused identified as Saleh Ahmed allegedly fired at Suraj Ali with a motive to take revenge.
The two businessmen Saleh Ahmed and Farhaz Siddique from Cachar had earlier visited the place of one Hazrat Ali of Miri in the Gudamghat area under Chariduar police station for business purposes.
Notably, on Sunday, when Suraj Ali, who is said to be a local young man, was having a conversation with Siddique near Hazrat's residence, when, Saleh Ahmed allegedly fired two shots at Suraj.
Fortunately, Suraj managed to escape from the place, and later he too attacked Saleh with a sharp weapon.
Upon hearing the bullet shots, locals rushed to the spot and caught them.
Later, Chariduar police reached the spot and nabbed both the persons and also recovered a .22 revolver, four rounds live, two empty bullet cases, one knife, and one four-wheeler from their possession.
The Chariduar police have registered a case (154/2022) under section 120(B)/448/307/of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 25(1A)/27 of the Arms Act.
Further investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, in July this year, two dreaded criminals were killed in an encounter by Cachar police near Digorkhal along the Assam-Meghalaya border.
Informing this, Cachar Superintendent of Police (SP) Ramandeep Kaur said in a press briefing on Sunday that another miscreant of the gang was still in police custody.
Silchar police were escorting back the gang from Jorabat where the three miscreants, wanted in a number of cases ranging from robbery, snatching, and extortion were arrested on Saturday.
Those killed in the encounter were identified as Kamrul Islam Barbhuiyan alias Lokai of Syedpur and Abul Hossain Barbhuiyan alias Abu of Awliyabazar area.
Kaur said, on June 30 there was an incident shootout in the Awaliya Bazar area.
