GUWAHATI: In yet another big catch by the Assam police, one more Maoist (Communist Party of India) operative has been arrested from his residence in the Kamrup district of Assam.

The arrested person has been identified as Hridoy Kalita 26 years old, son of Dharmeswar Kalita and a resident of Amtola Satra village which falls under Chaygaon of Kamrup Rural.

As per police sources, Hridoy is a hardcore Maoist cadre having close association with already arrested top Naxalite 'Kachan Da' known originally as Arup Kumar Bhattacherjee.

On Tuesday 5 April, during the night hours police launched an operation at Kamrup's Kukurmara area acting on a tip-off and following the operation they nabbed the active member of a left-winged group in Assam.

Police seized some incriminating documents about the militant organization of Maoist from the possession of the accused during the search operation.

While addressing the media, Guwahati CP (Commissioner of Police) Harmeet Singh stated that Hridoy was presented in front of the e-court a day after his arrest and currently he is kept under police custody for 7 days.

The CP further informed that at the time of interrogation Hridoy said that has been the secretary of an extreme left winged outfit in Assam called Gana Sanskriti Manch and also worked as the top official of Assam's Progressive Students' Youth Federation.

The accused also revealed names of several other people working in association with him from different regions of Assam said, Singh.

Notably, during the probe, it also came to light that the arrested criminal is an active Maoist cadre and one of the close associates of top Naxalite known popularly as 'Kachan Da arrested by Guwahati Police just a few days ago on 8 March 2022.

According to the commissioner, Kanchan had regularly helped Hridoy Kalita with financial needs that are required for expanding the organizational activities.

Meanwhile, a case vides Crime Branch PS Case No . 03 /2022 under relevant IPC sections including 120(B)/120/121/121(A)/122/384, R/W Sec 16/17/18/18 ( D)/ 19/20 UA(P) Act has been filed.
