GUWAHATI: The drive against corruption in Assam netted another official, when an Assistant Sub-Inspector in Lakhimpur district of Assam was arrested sleuths of Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DirVAC) on bribery charges on Tuesday.

The arrested officer has been identified by police as Dambarudhar Dutta of Silonibari Outpost in Lakhimpur district. A trap was set for Dutta by the DirVAC sleuths and he was caught red-handed while accepting bribe money from an individual, who had complained against him in the first place.

ASI Dutta had allegedly demanded the bribe money for providing relief to the complainant and his family in a criminal case, revealed police sources.

ADGP (Law & Order) GP Singh took to Twitter to post, "Today,Team from the @DIR_VAC_ASSAM trapped red-handed & arrested ASI Dambarudhar Dutta of Silonibari OP under North Lakhimpur district after he accepted bribe from the complainant for giving relief to complainant and his family in a criminal case. @assampolice @CMOfficeAssam".

It was also informed that a case under relevant sections of anti- corruption laws has been registered against the corrupt official.

The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption or in short DirVac Assam has employed sleuths in all corners of the state of Assam to keep a strict vigil on the working of government offices so that people should not go through any trouble, with many state government officials, including those from the police department, have been caught red-handed while accepting bribes.

DirVac Assam sleuths on September 28 were successful in arresting two government employees in two separate incidents under the suspicion of accepting bribe money.

Additional Patwari Utpal Kumar Nath employed at the Office of Settlement Officer of Hailakandi and Cachar district was caught red-handed and arrested by the vigilance team while accepting demanded money for the land certification work of a complainant.
