Assam: Police Book Padma Awardee For Raping Minor Girl

Guwahati: The Assam police on Monday booked Padma awardee Uddhab Bharali for allegedly raping an adopted minor girl.

A case has been registered in this regard by the police under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) based on a complaint from the Chief Judicial Magistrate, who was briefed by the district legal services authority.

As per the FIR, the girl accused Bharali of harassing her for a year.

Meanwhile, the Gauhati High Court granted interim bail to the accused.

While granting bail, Justice Arun Dev Choudhury commented that the alleged offence by the accused was 'serious in nature'

The victim is currently in a children's home, under special police protection.
