Guwahati: Since the beginning of the very first period of lockdown (on March 25), the Assam Police has realized Rs 68,04,400 as fine from citizens for not wearing masks.
At the same time, the police have so far registered 3,731 incidents of lockdown violations and to date, 4,961 persons have been arrested, while 34,655 vehicles have been detained. Interestingly, 23 country boats have also been seized by the police as a part of these operations.
The police have also been extremely vigilant against fake news in the post-COVID era. While 51 people have been arrested on the charges of spreading fake news, 97 cases have been registered. According to officials, 7 law and order incidents have also been reported during the lockdown period.
Meanwhile, 62 areas across the state have been marked as Containment Zones after the detection of COVID cases and sealed off for the public. Cachar -- with 29 such zones -- leads the list in Assam.
At the same time, a total lockdown period has been clamped in Guwahati city, which has emerged as the new epicentre of the COVID-19 in the state. On Thursday, the fourth day of the lockdown,12 people have been arrested in connection with lockdown violations in the city, and 5 cases have been registered. Rs. 9,500 has been realized as fine by the police from people for not wearing masks, as necessitated by protocol. As many as fifty vehicles have been detained and Rs. 43,000 has been realized as fine from the people.
Meanwhile, with the release of 275 COVID-19 patients from hospitals across Assam on Thursday, the number of active cases have come down to 2,832. At the same time, the number of deaths due to the respiratory disease has increased to 14, after two more persons perished because of the disease.
