Assam Police Conducts BMI Tests in Biswanath Chariali

BISWANATH: As a part of the initiative by the Assam Police, the Body Mass Index or BMI test was carried out among the police personnel in Biswanath. These tests are part of the statewide initiative by the police force to ensure that the employees of the force remain in peak health conditions.

These tests are being conducted from August 16 to 21 and all police employees irrespective of their rank will have to take part in the tests as ordered by the Director General of Police for Assam, Gyanendra Pratap Singh. In Biswanath, the test process is being led by the Superintendent of Police Subhasish Baruah. The tests began at around 10 AM in the MI Room of the Biswanath Sadar police station.

It was also notified by the authorities that if the name of any personnel is not found in the departmental databases, the same can be added during this initiative. Also, the police personnel posted in the region do not have to visit any other district to get their BMI tested. To achieve this, the Assam Police database will maintain records of personnel across the state to ensure that they do not have to go to any other district to get themselves tested.

Following the issuance of strict instructions on May 16, all police personnel were given a three-month period to achieve weight reduction. This directive prompted officers to focus on their fitness and health, marking a significant step toward a more robust police force. As part of the evaluation process, BMI tests will be held at each district headquarters, including the Kamrup (Metro) district. The 4th Assam Police Battalion (APBn) premises in Guwahati's Kahilipara will be the venue for BMI testing in the Kamrup (Metro) district. This initiative not only underscores the commitment of the Assam Police top brass to the well-being of their officers but also emphasizes the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle within law enforcement.

Director General of Assam Police (DGP) GP Singh has further elaborated on the weight reduction strategy. Police personnel categorized as obese, with a BMI of 30 or higher, will be granted an additional three months to actively work on their weight reduction goals, extending the deadline until the end of November. This provision highlights the organization's consideration for genuine medical conditions that might hinder weight loss efforts, such as hypothyroidism.
