Assam: Police Detain Three Alleged Miscreants Involved in Extortion Attempt

DIPHU: A daring attempt to extort money from several people at gunpoint in Diphu, under Karbi Anglong district, was foiled by Assam police on Wednesday night. Three individuals were apprehended in connection with the extortion attempt,as the authorities swiftly responded to the alarming situation. The accused were identified as Obasan Daulagfu alias Jaggu, Safa Sorafangsa, and Biju Gour, allegedly tried to extort a hefty sum of about 8 lakhs from multiple individuals in the region. Reports suggest that the miscreants resorted to gunpoint intimidation during their illicit activities.

Following crucial information about the trio's nefarious deeds, the police promptly launched a well-coordinated operation and successfully apprehended them in the Daladali area. The swift action ensured that the extortion plot did not escalate further, safeguarding the safety and security of potential victims.

In a significant breakthrough, the police also seized one SBBL (Smooth-Bore Breech Loading) rifle, a camouflage jacket, and four mobile phones from the possession of the arrested miscreants. Additionally, law enforcement officials seized a vehicle and another two-wheeler, which were allegedly being used in their criminal activities. Authorities suspect that the detained trio may be affiliated with a militant outfit, raising concerns about the presence of such groups engaging in illegal activities in the region.
