GUWAHATI: Assam police arrested two cybercriminals on Monday night in Morigaon district after a successful operation that saw the seizure of a lot of offensive materials from their possession.
The two people who were detained have been named Babul Islam and Rubuluddin, who are both from Kacharibari and Titatala, respectively. On Monday night, both were captured in an operation based on intelligence inputs that were carried out in the Buwalguri village.
167 SIM cards, six ATM cards, four passbooks, three Aadhar cards, and four voter ID cards were found during the search.
The pair is the subject of a case under the IT Act. To find more connections, an inquiry is being conducted. The arrest of a prominent cybercriminal at Goroimari was made possible by a successful operation carried out by the Morigaon police earlier in the month.
Aminul Haque, a major accused in the world of cybercrime, has been recognised as the person who was apprehended.
Aminul's involvement in illegal activities was evident from the startling 238 bogus SIM cards that law enforcement officers confiscated from him during the raid.
Aminul's acts were known to disrupt and jeopardise the internet security of several people, therefore his arrest is a big blow to the network of cybercriminals. The Morigaon police have stepped up their efforts to break up these criminal networks and create a safer online environment for everyone.
Earlier on June 20, the state government of Assam planned to create at least four Cyber Police Stations/Outposts at four separate sites in an effort to stop the sharp increase in cybercrime incidences in the state. Officials at the Officer-in-Charge level would oversee the Cyber Police Outposts in Dibrugarh and Silchar while Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) level officials will oversee the Cyber Police Stations in Guwahati.
