Assam: Police Detains Accused's Family Members for Questioning in Horrific Golaghat Triple Murder Case

GUWAHATI: In the aftermath of the heinous triple murder that shocked Golaghat, Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the grieving family members of the victims to offer his condolences and assurance of justice. However, moments after his visit, Golaghat Police took decisive action by detaining the brother and mother of the prime accused for questioning.

The sole survivor of the brutal attack, Ankita Ghosh, had previously reported to the media that she had filed a complaint at the police station in 2022, accusing the mother of the prime accused of assaulting her by pulling her hair, while the elder brother kicked her in the stomach. Sadly, at that time, the police failed to take any action on her complaint.

In a dramatic turn of events, after Ankita's explosive statement reached media platforms, the police took action and detained the prime accused's brother, Hizbul Rahman, who had been on the run since the incident occurred, along with his mother, Saleha Begum, for questioning.

Earlier on the same day, Chief Minister Sarma had assured the bereaved family that he would ensure severe punishment for all involved in the horrifying crime. Expressing his determination to fight crime in Assam, he took to Twitter, writing, "In Assam, be it Nazibur Rahman or any other individual, we stand firm in our commitment that crime has no place in our state. Our resolve remains unwavering – no criminal shall escape justice."

The Assam Director General of Police (DGP), GP Singh, responded to the Chief Minister's tweet with a promise to present a foolproof charge sheet against the perpetrators and abettors. He also pledged to investigate any lapses in previous cases, including the validity of the marriage certificate submitted during previous investigations.

The triple murder tragedy took place on Hindi School Road in Golaghat, claiming the lives of three family members – Sanjeev Ghosh, Junu Ghosh, and Sanghamitra Ghosh. The accused, Nazibur Rahman, later surrendered himself to the police, along with a 9-month-old infant who had been reported missing and allegedly eloped with him after the horrendous crime.

The incident has sparked public outcry and raised questions about the effectiveness of law enforcement in addressing previous complaints made by the survivor, Ankita Ghosh. As the investigation unfolds, the state authorities are under immense pressure to ensure justice is served swiftly and fairly.

In a state where crime will not be tolerated, the Assam government and law enforcement authorities are determined to bring all the culprits to justice and provide closure to the grieving family. The detainment of the accused's family members for questioning is a significant step towards uncovering the truth behind the triple murder case, and the public is closely watching for the promised foolproof charge sheet to ensure no one involved escapes accountability.
