GUWAHATI: Lovlina Borgohain, who won the gold medal in the IBA Women's Boxing World Championships, arrived at the Assam Police headquarters in Guwahati on Friday.
Director General of Police (DGP) Gyanendra Pratap Singh of Assam congratulated her on her most recent accomplishment at the Assam Police headquarters.
Lovlina Borgohain expressed her gratitude to the Assam Police for their appreciation and stated "I am grateful to Assam Police as the training I received here has helped me attain my goals," Lovlina stated in her speech.
"The training has helped me overcome any hurdle that has come my way. Every police officer here has shown concern for me” she claimed.
It should be noted that Lovlina Borgohain had been chosen to serve as the Assam Police's deputy superintendent of police (DSP) in January 2022 as a result of her valiant efforts in earning an Olympic medal.
"It was a day of pride for the government and police," CM Himanta Biswa Sarma had stated as he gave Lovlina Borgohain the letter of appointment.
"We appointed her in accordance with the state government's sports policy. Lovlina Borgohain has brought laurels to the state since the day she won the medal. I am feeling proud by appointing her as DSP. She will try everything to make the future of the state bright”, the CM said.
Lovlina Borgohain, who won the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics, added another achievement to her resume on March 26 when she won her first gold medal at the World Championships. In the 75-kg final of the IBA Women's World Boxing Championship, Lovlina Borgohain triumphed over two-time Commonwealth Games medalist Caitlin Parker of Australia with a split 5-2 decision.
The world boxing championship gold medalist Lovlina Borgohain was honoured by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma yesterday in Guwahati. After winning the gold medal in the IBA Women's World Boxing Championships, Borgohain returned to Assam, where she was greeted at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport with flowers and gamosas.
During the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with three companies to develop high-performance sports training and rehabilitation centres in two cities within the state, the Assam boxer was honoured at Janata Bhawan.
