The chargesheet in the doctor's assault case at Udali Covid care centre in Hojai was filed by Assam Police on Tuesday. In the chargesheet, the Hojai police have named 36 persons, out of which three are minors. 

The chargesheet for the case was presented by the Assam Police in just 29 days. GP Singh, Special DG of Assam Police, informed about this significant development. 

"Reference Udali Doctor assault case of Hojai – @Hojai_Police has submitted charge sheet today against 36 accused persons including 3 children in conflict with law. In 29 days," twitted GP Singh.

On June 1, junior Dr Senapati was brutally assaulted by at least 28 miscreants in Hojai recently. He was attacked by over 24 relatives of a patient including women. The relatives lost their cool after their patient died within hours of being hospitalised. They started hitting Dr Senapati and kicking him as the doctor lay on the ground. After arresting 24 people involved in the physical assault case of Dr Senapati at Lanka in the Hojai district, another two persons have been arrested on June 2. 

There have been other instances of violence perpetrated against medics by furious relatives and friends of COVID-19 patients undergoing treatment. 

Two people, including a woman was earlier arrested in Assam's Hailakandi for allegedly assaulting a government doctor on duty at the S K Roy Civil Hospital. As per the sources, the arrested people have been identified as Rumpi Malakar and Himangshu Malakar, relatives of a patient brought to the hospital in a serious condition on May 27 who later died, after which both of them along with other relatives assaulted the Medical Officer Dr Gaurav Bhattacharjee. Hailakandi Superintendent of police Ramandeep Kaur said that the arrested woman tested COVID-19 positive and has been admitted to the COVID ward of the hospital.

Another doctor was attacked at Kharupetia in Darrang district. Dr Ahmed Ali, working at Tezpur Medical College, was undergoing treatment at Afreen Health Care Center in Nimtali area of Kharupetia on Friday evening. As per reports, a young man named Rahul Amin, who introduced himself as the General Secretary of the District Youth Congress, allegedly attacked Dr Ali and his wife at the healthcare centre. According to the reports, the Congress leader along with his sister Pinki Begum visited the hospital for treatment. As the doctor was looking for another patient at that time and told him to wait, he burst out in anger and allegedly started to misbehave with the doctor and attacked him physically. Dr Ali's wife was also physically assaulted when she came into rescue of the doctor. The Congress leader and his sister fled when the Kharupetia police arrived at the spot.
