GUWAHATI: In a significant development, a head constable of the Assam Police, Safed Ali, found himself on the wrong side of the law as he was apprehended on Tuesday for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a complainant. The arrest was orchestrated by the Vigilance & Anti Corruption Branch of the Assam Police, who set a trap based on a complaint received.
The incident unfolded in the town of Dalgaon, located in the Darrang district. The complainant, having lodged a case with the anti-corruption department, accused Ali of soliciting a bribe in exchange for favorable treatment in a case filed against him. Acting on this complaint, the vigilance team initiated a carefully planned operation to expose the corrupt practices of the accused constable.
As part of the trap, on Tuesday, the complainant followed Ali's instructions and headed to the Titan Hotel in Dalgaon. It was there that he encountered Ali, who proceeded to accept the illicit bribe of Rs 20,000. Unbeknownst to Ali, the vigilant anti-corruption team of the Assam Police had discreetly stationed themselves outside the hotel, ready to intervene at the opportune moment.
The operation reached its climax when the vigilance team, armed with the evidence they needed, raided the hotel room and apprehended Ali red-handed. The head constable now faces legal consequences, having been booked under the relevant sections of the law. He is currently in custody, awaiting further legal proceedings.
