GUWAHATI: It takes a lot of courage, conviction, and honesty to refuse offers of easy money for Rs. 15–20 lakhs. However, by turning down a bribe of 20 lakhs, two Assam police home guards showed their moral character. In addition to rejecting the payment, the pair and the secretary of the Village Defense Party (VDP) in Assam's Karimganj district recovered drugs worth 40 crores of rupees. I'm delighted to state that the Assam Police employs individuals of this calibre, and I'm incredibly proud of this fact, said DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta.

After a brief chase, Home Guards Anupam Malakar and Jashim Uddin reportedly managed to stop a Maruti Alto automobile that had earlier attempted to elude them on January 17, 2023, around 3:30 AM. The local VDP unit's secretary, Amit Pal, was also called to the scene by the Home Guards.

The drug dealer driving the car, Mohammed Hadius Zaman, tried to bribe the Home Guards Anupam Malakar and Jashim Uddin with 15 to 20 lakh rupees to enable him and his shipment of drugs to leave after being cornered. However, the trio declined the substantial sum and behaved legally. The group then called the Karimganj Police, who later found 7,59,200 Yaba tablets inside the car.

According to sources, This haul has a market value of about 40 crores rupees. In actuality, this is Assam's largest haul of Yaba Tablets.

Said DGP Mahanta "Such integrity and devotion to duty! The trio was invited to APHQ on January 18 to express our gratitude for their accomplishment.

Each of the three received a monetary prize of Rs. 50,000 and a certificate of appreciation. They all have our utmost admiration! They exhibit the genuine Assam Police spirit!" "Hadius Zaman, a narcotics dealer, was taken into custody. We have filed a complaint under the NDPS Act, and additional inquiry is ongoing, "said Padmanav Baruah, the police chief of Karimganj. Sources claim that on June 24, 2021, Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Assam chief minister, agreed to assign Borsing Bey as a constable in the Assam police and give him a financial reward of one lakh rupees.
