Guwahati: A massive search operation has been launched by the Nagaon police on 3 February in Amguri town in the Sivasagar district of Assam to track down fraudster Mriupawan Neog.
Meanwhile, Raktim Gogoi and Abhijit Gogoi have been arrested by the police for providing a safe haven to Neog.
Both Raktim and Abhijit are currently undergoing interrogation by the Nagaon police.
Neog was allegedly involved in a scam of worth Rs 30 lakhs. Apart from this, the fraudster was reportedly involved in several other unscrupulous business practices that deceived innocent public.
He was also the recipient of a complaint registered against him in connection with a drug related case back in 2009.
Rs 30 lakhs was reportedly taken by Neog from Imran Hussain, a resident of Nagaon, on the pretext of supplying him with a luxury car. Neog did not deliver him the car and instead vanished into thin air.
Imran, enraged by this treachery, immediately filed a complaint against the fraudster. A search operation against the accused was launched last year by the Guwahati police in collaboration with the Nagaon police.
The police arrested his bodyguard Rakesh Dixit and driver Bahin Boro from his apartment in Kahilipara in Guwahati. Unfortunately, the police was unable to get hold of him as he managed to flee from his apartment in the right time.
The fraudster has been on the run ever since. He also sought bail before the court only to get rejected.
Earlier, during the raid conducted by Assam police at Mridupaban's house, the police found many objectionable documents, including 3.2 pistol, ammunitions, APS and IPS badge, foreign currencies, three stamp pads of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India plate inscribing Ashok Pillar, laptop and gold chain.
