GUWAHATI: In response to the escalating wave of mobile snatching incidents in the city, Guwahati Police successfully apprehended a gang of mobile phone thieves in the Jalukbari area on Sunday night. The operation, carried out by a team from the West Guwahati Police District (WGPD) stationed at the Jalukbari Outpost, was executed based on valuable intelligence inputs. The outcome was the dismantling of a four-member gang engaged in the illicit trade of stolen mobile phones.

The gang members included three adult thieves and a juvenile offender. The adult culprits were identified as Gobinda Singh Maheto (31), Laxman Singh (25), and Nageshwar Nuniya (34), all originally hailing from Jharkhand.

The law enforcement operation yielded substantial results as the police managed to recover a total of 16 stolen mobile devices from the possession of the arrested individuals. Notably, among the recovered phones were high-end brands such as iPhones and OnePlus devices, indicating the gang's involvement in stealing valuable and sought-after technology.

With a commitment to curbing mobile theft in the city, the Guwahati Police continue to be vigilant and proactive. They have conveyed that their operation against mobile thieves is ongoing, and further arrests are anticipated as they strive to dismantle similar criminal networks responsible for mobile phone snatching.

In an official announcement made on social media, the Guwahati Police shared the details of their successful operation, stating, "A WGPD team from Jalukbari OP busted a gang of receivers of stolen/snatched mobile phones after a raid last night. 16 stolen phones were recovered. 3 thugs - Gobinda Singh Maheto (31), Laxman Singh (25) & Nageshwar Nuniya (34), all from Tinpahar in Jharkhand, were arrested."
