Guwahati: The Assam Police on Monday nabbed a man from Tinsukia for allegedly 'pirating' more than 500 Assamese books, including Novels without taking the consent of the original writers.

As per reports, these books are available in PDF format on a website created by the accused.

The police apprehended him over the complaint lodged by the members of All Assam Publishers and Book Sellers Association.

The accused have been identified as Montu Deka and he has been booked for breaching provisions of the Copyright Act.

Following the developments, a writer has demanded strict punishment for the Deka.

Reports further claimed that there could be more persons involved in the case, however, their identities are yet to be ascertained.
