Guwahati: Assam Police has nabbed an alleged member of the Maoists Central Committee from Assam's Cachar district.

According to reports, the nabbed person identified as Arun Kumar Bhattacharjee, populary known as 'Kanchan Da' was hiding in the state and was trying to establish a state module of the Maoists besides arranging weapons.

Along with him, another member of the group of the group has been arrested named Akash Morang.

"We have received inputs about him from central agencies that he was residing in some bordering districts of the state. Acting on these inputs, state police launched operations to catch him. Though we 'missed' him twice, but eventually, he was apprehended from Patimara tea garden in Cachar district on Sunday evening," Guwahati Commissioner of Police Harmeet Singh said at a press conference on Monday.

The initial investigations have revealed that Kanchan Da was trying to set up a state module of the CPI (Maoist) and also indulged in setting up a 'red corridor' for the outfit.

Singh further informed that a laptop, mobile along with Rs 3 lakh cash have been recovered from his possession.
