JORHAT: Assam Police today arrested a fraudster from Assam's Mariani in Jorhat District for allegedly duping job aspirants under the pretext of providing them government jobs.
The fraudster is identified as Ranjan Bhuyan who hails from Tezpur in the Sonitpur District of Assam.
According to some reports, Bhuyan lured job aspirants with jobs in the armed forces and swindled lakhs from them.
Bhuyan was part of a huge racket of fraudsters who used to swindle money from helpless job aspirants on the pretext of giving them jobs.
All five of them including Bhuyan were camping in Loknath Vivah Bhawan in Jorhat and were targeting aspirants who came for an interview in the Military Engineering Service(MES) army camp.
The police acted on a tipoff from a human intelligence source which is often deployed by police in order to get hold of such fraudsters. A team of Assam Police quickly rushed to the spot where the five fraudsters were duping helpless and innocent job aspirants and were able to get hold of Bhuyan. The other four are on the run.
A police investigation is currently underway to catch the other four fraudsters.
In a similar incident, a fake job racket was busted by Assam Police on Sunday night in Guwahati, and managed to get hold of seven brokers who were engaged in duping job aspirants and swindling money from them. The masterminds of the racket are on the run but the police are confident that they will be able to get hold of them very soon.
The Police arrested the seven brokers while they were on their job camping in a lodge in Guwahati's Borbari Area. Fake appointment letters and seals of government offices like the Irrigation department were seized from their possession.
"We have seized their bank passbooks and all the monetary transaction between them and the aspirants is under investigation", Guwahati DCP(East) Sudhakar Singh said in a statement.
