Tinsukia: An Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) shot himself with his service revolver at Tinsukia Sadar police station here on Monday.

As per reports, the sub-inspector identified as Dinakanta Sonowal was working in the traffic department.

Following the incident, Sonowal was immediately rushed to the nearest hospital, however, he succumbed to his injuries.

The exact reason behind taking this step is yet to be ascertained.

The 50-year-old deceased cop left his wife and two children behind him.

In a similar incident, an on-duty Assistant Sub-inspector (ASI) shot himself with his service revolver inside the police station in March this year.

The deceased was identified as Gaur Bidhu Singh and was a resident of Udharbond in the Moynarbond area.

The incident unraveled when the officer, who was on duty at Silchar Sadar Police Station, removed his service revolver and shot himself in his head while he was sitting in his own chair.

After hearing the gunshot, the police officials realized that the ASI had shot himself.

In March this year, another on-duty Assistant Sub-inspector (ASI) shot himself with his service revolver inside the police station.

The deceased was identified as Gaur Bidhu Singh and is a resident of Udharbond in the Moynarbond area.

The incident unravelled when the officer, who was on duty at Silchar Sadar Police Station, removed his service revolver and shot himself in his head while he was sitting in his own chair.

The police officials heard the sound of a gunshot at around 3:00 PM and immediately realized that the ASI has shot himself.

The officer's dead body was recovered by the Superintendent of Cachar Police, Dr Ramandeep Kaur, who immediately rushed to the Silchar Sadar Police Station after receiving the news. The body has been sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for postmortem.

His family members were devastated by the sudden demise of ASI Singh and have rushed to the police station. Cachar police are yet to release an official statement on the chain of events.
