HAATSINGIMARI: Carrying out an operation against narcotics in the South Salmara Mankachar district of the state, Assam Police was able to recover some narcotic substances from a fruit seller.

The operation took place in Hatsingimari, the district headquarters of South Salmara Mankachar at around 2 PM on Monday. The narcotics were found on the premises of an apple seller. And the police were able to recover 260 narcotic tablets from the suspected peddlers. The police were able able to arrest two people in regard to the incident.

The identities of the two accused are Mahidul Islam aged 27 years, son of Yusup Ali of Kharuabanda and Majnu Pradhani, son of Emen Ali of Hatsingimari. The police team has detained them in Kharuabanda and continues with the necessary investigation into the matter.

A few days back, acting based on specific information, a team from the Churaibari Police Station undertook a naka checking. During this checking, a large consignment of contraband ganja was found concealed in the cabin of the truck. A total of 337 kilos of ganja was found concealed in a total of 62 packets which were kept in a hidden cabin of the truck.

The seized truck had the registration number WB 73 D 5911. It was on its way from Silchar in West Bengal to Agartala in Tripura when it was apprehended in Churaibari. One person was also arrested by the police in this regard. He was identified as 29 years old Zakir Hussain son of Samed Ali from Guwahati in Assam. The police have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act of 1985 against the accused. The superintendent of police of the district, Bhanupada Chakraborty mentioned that the estimated value of the seized consignment is Rs 50 Lakhs.
