KOKRAJHAR: As State Assembly election is coming near, the police are keeping vigil to ensure peaceful election in the BTC region and are seizing arms and ammunition.

The police on Saturday carried out intensive operation in the deep forest area near Diglipara under Bismuri police post after receiving information of concealment of arms and ammunition. The police team recovered assault rifles and ammunition.

Talking to reporters at SP office, Kokrajhar, the Special DGP (Training and Armed Police) and I/C of IGP, BTC LR Bishnoi said after getting a tip-off, the police team led by ASP MukutRabha and assisted by Deputy SP PunamjitNath and i/c, Bishmuri police post AjitBhuyan recovered two AK-56 rifles, two magazines of AK series, 29 live rounds of ammunition and one revolver. Bishnoi said the arms and ammunition could be of former militant outfits who dumped the weapons. He also said seizing of arms and ammunitions would continue.
