HATSINGIMARI: An incident of attempted cattle smuggling was foiled by a team from Assam Police. The incident took place in the South Salmara Mankachar district of the state.

The incident took place in the Sukchar locality near the Hatsingimari region of the South Salmara Mankachar district of the state. Sukchar Police carried out an operation in the Nakkati village at night and rescued a total of 10 cattle. The operation also led to the capture of one suspected cattle smuggler.

The arrested cattle smuggler was identified as 50 years old Firajul Sheikh belonging to the Bhutiyadanga village under the Sukchar Police Station.

It can be mentioned that the police had received information regarding possible attempts of cattle smuggling, and a team from the Sukchar Police Station started the operation under the orders of the Officer In Charge of the Sukchar Police Station. The team carried out the region near the Jinjiram River and managed to rescue the animals.

In a similar incident, a police team was able to rescue 36 cattle heads from cattle smugglers during an operation carried out at Digaru near Guwahati city. An operation was carried out by a team from the Sonapur Police Station which comes under the East Guwahati Police District. This operation led to the interception of a truck bearing registration number AS 01 GC 9844 with 36 live cattle onboard. Three miscreants, including the driver, were also arrested by the police team during the operation and legal action has been initiated against them. According to reports, the smuggled cattle were being moved to Meghalaya.

Previously also, an East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) team from Sonapur PS had intercepted one truck (NL01 A 3449) at Lalmati naka after it tried to smuggle 31 live cattle and three carcasses. Two persons were arrested. Legal action has been initiated.
