Lakhimpur: Assam Police on Friday rescued a newborn baby who was sold by his own father in Assam's Lakhimpur.

As per reports, the infant was rescued from a priest's house named Krishna Kamal Upadhya in the district.

It has been alleged that the father of the infant, identified as Suren Gaur, sold his baby with the help of a woman. The baby was born on August 11 at a hospital in the Gohpur area.

The police swung into action after the accused father lodged at Gohpur Police Station.

On August 17th, a 13-year-old girl was rescued by Assam Police after she was allegedly kidnapped by a government school teacher in the state's Dhubri district.

As per reports, the school teacher, identified as Zakir Hussain is on run following the developments.

Hussain allegedly lured the minor girl and took her to his relative named Moijuddin's home in the Ananda Nagar area in Bilasipara.

The matter came to light after the girl's family members filed a police complaint at Bandihana police station in Dhubri district.

Acting on the complaint, the police formed a team and successfully managed to recover the abducted girl from Krishan Nagar.

Earlier, as the accused teacher's name appeared in the case, an agitated mob along with the parents of the victim girl had gheraoed the residence of Hussain's relative in Ananda Nagar.

Earlier on August 6, a 14-year-old girl, who had gone missing from the Fatasil Ambari area was rescued from Pathsala.

As per the police sources, a case was registered at the Fatasil Ambari Police Station on the basis of an FIR lodged by the minor girl's family, and a youth named Faruk Ali was apprehended in this connection.
