GUWAHATI: In a significant operation, Assam police achieved a major breakthrough by successfully intercepting and rescuing 44 cattle heads that were being illegally transported in a truck. This operation took place at Jorabat, located on the outskirts of Guwahati city.
The diligent efforts of the police culminated in the apprehension of two individuals directly involved in the illicit cattle trafficking. These arrested individuals have been identified as Mafizul Khan and Aminul Haque.
The cattle, which were being smuggled from Nagaon, were en route to Byrnihat before being intercepted at Jorabat thanks to the alertness of the police.
During the inspection of the truck, a shocking discovery was made - the 44 cattle heads were crammed inside the rear of the vehicle, highlighting the inhumane conditions in which these animals were being transported.
As the investigation unfolds, the authorities are working tirelessly to unearth any further linkages and individuals involved in this illegal operation, seeking to bring them to justice.
This recent success is part of a broader crackdown on cattle-related crimes in Assam. Just last month, law enforcement authorities recovered as many as 32 stolen cattle from three cars in Assam's Nagaon district. In this operation, one person was arrested on charges of stealing the cattle.
Led by the sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Kaliabor Rupjyoti Dutta, a dedicated police team carried out an operation against cattle theft in Nagaon's Kaliabor region. A senior Nagaon Police official stated, "The police team successfully recovered 32 stolen cattle from three vehicles involved in the criminal activity. Additionally, the law enforcement authorities seized these three vehicles and apprehended the main accused in this case."
These efforts underscore the commitment of Assam's law enforcement agencies to combat illegal cattle trafficking and related crimes. With the successful interception of both the recent cattle transport and the earlier theft case, they are sending a clear message that such activities will not go unpunished, and animals will be protected from harm.
