Guwahati: The result of the written recruitment examination for 597 positions at the Sub-Inspector (SI) level in the Assam Police held on November 22 has been declared on Saturday. Candidates can download the result from the State Level Police Recruitment Board (SLPRB) website https://slprbassam.in.

The exam was scheduled for September 20 but had to be cancelled following a preliminary report of the question paper being leaked and circulated on WhatsApp. Around 66,000 candidates sat for the examination. The re-examination was held on November 22 and the timing for the examination was 12 pm to 2 pm.

Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal directed the SLPRB to re-conduct the examination within a month. The then SLPRB chairperson Pradeep Kumar tendered his resignation taking moral responsibility of the failure to conduct the examination in a free and fair manner. Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta was then appointed as the new chairperson of the SLPRB.

Raids were conducted in Bongaigaon, Barpeta and Chirang districts on October 10 and 11 in connection with the case of the exam scam and a total amount of Rs 5.35 crore was recovered.

In another raid in Guwahati on October 11, around Rs 4.2 lakh cash was recovered.

Among those arrested was Joydeep Barooah, an employee of former Assam police DIG, PK Dutta. An amount of Rs 24 lakh was recovered from Barooah's residence in Guwahati on October 14.

Dutta had allegedly collected this sum from candidates and then handed it over to Barooah to hide.

Ever since the investigation on the examination scam had begun, police teams raided two hotels owned by accused PK Dutta in Guwahati and claimed to have found incriminating evidence, including information on those connected to the scam.

Over 50 persons were arrested in the case of the examination scam.
